Running in Cantha, or "I don't get it"
I was at the marketplace today trying to flog some golden armour when someone I bartered with suddenly asked me if I would rush him to Kaineng Center. I was a little confused, but jokingly said "Depends on what you're paying ".
He offered me two platinum.
I was sure he was just making a joke too but agree to run him anyway - hey, it's not a long distance and I kinda liked him. When we arrived, which did not take more than 2 - 3 minutes tops, he actually gave me two plats, thanked me and was off on his merry way. I never actually thought I'd actually be payed, but I was.
I decided I'd try that again.
Back to the marketplace with me. "Running to Kaineng Center, 500 gold per person!".
It took less than 5 minutes to fill my group and off we went. One of those guys didn't pay (and was then quickly put on my ignore list), but the others did and were very thankful.
I advertised my run again and again and long story short I made about 20 platinum today by running people between those two places. Towards the end people in the cities started to yell that the way was easy and that I was scamming. Yes, I answered, the way is easy and no, I am not scamming, I am providing a service for payment. I was always very open about what I was doing. My groups filled despite the talk against me.
Now I wonder why people actually paid me. What are they thinking? There is no hostile group between those two cities (actually there is one, but you can evade it. And even if you don't they're not going to kill you that quickly...), it's a pretty short way and it's ot overly complicated to find it. Why would anyone pay for it? One person I would have understood, but I have a feeling that nearly everyone wanted to be run...
Why? I just don't get it.

Canthan Born characters fresh off the island are afraid of lvl20+ explorable zones.
I see "LFR to Center" all the time in marketplace.

Sometimes when you pay for a service, it's not the time or difficulty that you pay for, it's the knowledge of the service provider. It's entirely possible that these people just don't know how to get there.
I remember bringing my char over for the Tengu mask day, I was in a group that went all over the place looking for where we needed to go. It's worth it to some - take their gold and be happy.

That 1 group may be easy with 60-100 armor...but with 5 armor, it might instantly kill you.

Na.... I was unable to buy armour for quite some time and finished all quests up to and including Vinzunah square with an armour rating of 5. Also it's easy to avoid those monserts and never be seen in the first place.
I suppose it's just plain lazyness... but then again, consider that Factions is not that old yet. I wonder if those people have actually fought their way to Kaineng before on another character or if they just didn't know any better and thought that's just what you do - "Hey, everybody seems to get run, so why not me, Nobby McNoob?"

well, at least the people who get runned dont all go and say "Man I could have done this run myself!"
eIt should die out eventually, but I dont see any harm in helping someone if they dont know the way. I'm bad with runs... I test run a few times before I consider charging, and i still dont :P.
If they really dont know wheere the City is, then they pay someone who does, and besides you get quite alot of gold in comparison to Prophecies when you start out.
I feel bad now, I might go spam "Head north to Kaineng.... hardly any monsters on the way" in the marketplace.

I ran people for an hour for free and told them all that the price was that they'd show someone else the way.
I feel like it's a rip off run in my opinion just slightly better than taking their money and logging off.

I'm waiting for a Factions running guide. That is, I need to know what places can and can't be run to. All of my characters are stuck in the city, due to excessive boredom with the endless mazelike slums. I can't be bothered to play past it.

Why get bluddy ran, paying for the knowledge of the runner, running is a bag of piss.
This is a shit excuse for a legit run, maybe if you shitty runners let these guys keep there money and let them play there they would be able to spend the money and the money they gain by actually playing on their new armor and stuff.

True, it is a pretty stupid thing, so why are people asking for it? I can't get my head around it - if it's to much of a bother for them to run northwards for a minute or two on their own why bother playing the game in the first place? Especially since there are some nice quests on the way too.
Gli: Yeah, that kinda bothers me too. Actually only one thing bothers me: There are a lot of dead ends. I was feeling kinda lost in Cantha, then realized that this is actually a good thing - I should feel that way because I have never played the game before and my character would probably feel lost and overwhelmed too. Just the thrill of something new, I suppose
lauriepriest: If you want an answer, stop cursing. If you want to troll, continue, but I won't react anymore.

If people are lazy enough to pay for a run, its not the fault of the runners. If people didn't want it and didn't want to pay, they wouldn't join up with the runners. Though I'd never be a runner, too many people get rushed through and then insist that its not them who have no clue how to play the game... and we have more than enough people like that

the thing with cantha is you cant be run to very many places.Gates are locked to missions and for kurzick and luxon places to get further in you have to befriend them or do quests.

Consider it like a taxi service....people pay to go places....people take people who pay to places....so the service is there!!! Make sure you have your light on so folks can wave you down!!!
TAXI!!! TAXI!!!

In theory, I like the anti-running setup of Factions. In practice, I don't think it's all that hot considering the mindnumbingly dull and annoying areas I now have to grind my way through. After 30 minutes of playing in the city slums I get an irresistable urge to go do the dishes, walk the dog, take out the trash, clean the fridge, etc. etc. etc. I guess I'm not going to buy more character slots after all because I don't think I'll want to replay I game I find dull on the first playthrough.

yeah i'm the same Gli. I don't ever get run, and whilst not totally anti-running, i'm far from 'for' it as well, but I still like to be able to get myself wherever I want by exploring...
